Melanie Elaine Eng

About

Melanie is a Chinese American artist and printmaker. She holds a BFA in Print Media with a minor in Visual Studies from California College of the Arts. Presently, she is investigating themes of techno-orientalism for Asian futures in media, labor and its repetitive significance, and humor within traditional Chinese art histories. Her reflection on these concepts mirror isolation from institutions, emotional displacement, and mutational identities.

Her work previously centered memory, food culture, and family as performance. Meals worked as a symbol of communal upbringing and home by means of Chinese custom and religion, made physically distributable by print forms.

Melanie specializes in lithography, intaglio, and monotype printing. Printmaking is a performance of labor, accessibility, and affect in her practice.
